How does tax-free work in Norway?
Norway has a VAT (Value Added Tax) rate of 25% on most goods. If you live outside Norway, you may claim a refund of the VAT on purchases you take out of the country. This is called the tax-free scheme ("tax-free handel").

- You are visiting on a cruise or as a tourist
- You are taking the goods out of Norway

How to claim your refund — step by step
- Shop at a store displaying the Tax Free logo
- Ask for a tax-free form at the register — show your passport
- The form will show the refund amount (typically 11–19% of the purchase price)
- Get the form stamped at Norwegian customs before you leave the country
- Collect your refund at a Global Blue or Planet refund point — or at the airport on your way home
💡 Cruise passenger tip: As a cruise passenger, you cannot get the customs stamp while still in Norway. Most cruise lines allow you to hand in sealed tax-free purchases and get the refund processed via the ship or at your home port. Ask your cruise line about their tax-free procedure before shopping.
